If you are not able to create energy (the body’s currency) you are not entitled to spend it!
Think of it this way; if you have a lot of money in the bank, you can buy lots of nice things!… clothes, perfume, jewellery, food, a nice car. However, if you don’t have that money, you can’t spend it. Your body is the same. Adding in good quality fuel, means you will have a rich amount of energy to spend!
Women tend to think that spending a load of energy will result in a good yield, beasting themselves with a HIIT session, followed by Body Combat and then throwing in a Legs, Bums and Tums session for good measure. The following day, they repeat the same routine. A few months pass, they have invested all that energy, have little to show for it and start to wonder what is wrong? “It’s my age/my hormones/I must be perimenopausal/menopausal, I don’t have time to eat!” We don’t actually think to look at what we are consuming each meal and each day.
There is nothing wrong with carrying out a lot of exercise each day, but if you are going to do that 4 or 5 days a week, you need to make sure that you fuel your activity so your body can get on with achieving the goals you have set.
What you are not seeing is the body working hard to maintain an equilibrium to run the many processes that it needs to for every minute of the day and night such as; energy production, sleep, recovery, cell and muscle growth, digestion, absorption of nutrients and excretion. This is the part we take for granted…until it all goes wrong! This can take on all sorts of identities such as tiredness, fatigue, poor recovery, amenorrhea (loss of menstrual cycle), weight gain, little or no weight loss, brain fog, this list is not exhaustive…
Our bodies adapt to what we give them. You put a small amount of energy (money) in, you don’t get much back. How do you expect no money to accrue interest?! It’s the same with your body. How do you expect it to work, if you are putting in the minimum amount of fuel?
